To our friends of the Center for Nonviolence:  Our main concern for the Center is a financial one.  We usually send out a spring appeal by mail in April reporting on what we’ve been doing and what we are going to do next as well, of course, as asking for donations.  I’m still planning on doing this – though a little differently.  Usually, we gather a few people together and fold, address, stamp etc. the appeal letter.  We don’t want to ask people to come in to the Center at this point and so I’m going to copy the letter, make address labels, buy the stamps and parcel them out to not only the usual suspects but hopefully to others who offer to help.  I’d drive by your home and drop them off at the door – so all you would have to do is put the appeal together and mail in your mailbox.

Though the Center is closed right now, we still have overhead expenses to pay – rent, utilities.  Our landlord, Binh, has been so good to us over the years – never putting up our rent for example – so we’d like to help him by paying our rent.

There are a number of people on our Google list-serv for whom I don’t have postal addresses, and so when I’ve written the letter, I’ll send it also to this list.  If you would like to make a donation before this letter goes out, that would be greatly appreciated and save on stamps.  You can do it by sending a check to the Center as follows:  Fresno Center for Nonviolence, 1584 N. Van Ness Ave., Fresno, CA 93728.  In the memo part of the check put Spring Appeal.  Our treasurer, Ron, is still picking up from the Center checks and bills.  You can also donate by PayPal by logging  on to our website at www.centerfornonviolence.org and click on donate.

At this time, we are still planning on our 28th Anniversary on Saturday, June 13th at 4-6 p.m. at the Community United Church of Christ, 5550 N. Fresno Street.  Our keynote speaker will be Marylia Kelley, Executive Director of Tri-Valley Cares and she will be talking about nuclear arms issues and the continual nuclear threat.  Of course, you will be getting more on this event later.

Lastly, and most importantly, stay safe and healthy.  For those who are sheltering in place, it is tough I know.  Our dogs are happy though getting more walks than before.  But remember that our health care workers are at risk working on taking care of you – so please stay home to take care of them.
