Our Center’s 27th Anniversary on May 4th was a very good event with presentations to the two Way of Peace Awardees Mai Thao and Fresnans Against Fracking, a delicious potluck and silent 
auction – though that didn’t go so well as we’d hoped but we still made a little money to help pay the bills!
Alison Weir, our keynote speaker, gave a talk (and showed slides) not only about the history of how Palestine became Israel but what is happening presently. With the Jewish Lobby and other such groups being so powerful, the average American not only has no idea of the plight of the people in Palestine, especially Gaza, but receives news instead that they are the ones who are causing the problem with their rockets killing Israelis.
Alison founded the organization “if Americans Knew” and she suggested we checked its website www.ifAmericansKnew.org which has many ways we can educate ourselves about what is actually happening there. You will also find her latest blog that she wrote on May 6th “Israel-Gaza deaths: 293 Gazans and 6 Israelis killed in the past year.” Alison’s book “Against our Better Judgment: the hidden history of how the U.S. was used to create Israel” is well worth buying and you can do this also by logging on to that website.
