For many years the Center for Nonviolence has partnered with Pastors for Peace and their caravan to Cuba. We are so happy that, after 16 years in a U.S. prison, the three remaining members of the Cuban Five have been reunited with their families. Here is a statement from IFCO.
December 17, 2014 will go down in history as a day of celebration for the Cuban people and those across the globe in solidarity with Cuba. We at IFCO are elated to learn that Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, have been released from US prisons in conjunction with Cuba’s release of US AID Contractor Alan Gross. The unprecedented focus on Cuba in recent months in the New York Times ranging from Cuba’s heroic response to the Ebola crisis in West Africa to condemnations of the US government’s programs aimed at subverted the Cuban government through youth uprisings lead through social media and the hip hop culture have contributed to what appears to be a thaw in US policy toward Cuba.
