  • Friday, December 25, 2009, 12:00 to 1:00 pm: Santas for Peace. All are welcomed to join Peace Fresno when Santa Claus comes to Peace Corner (Blackstone Blvd. and Shaw Ave.). Come dressed as your favorite reindeer or Santa to stand up or sit down on the corner for peace. Peace Fresno will provide antlers and Santa hats.   • Friday, January 1, 2010: The Fresno Center for Nonviolence wishes everyone a Merry and Peaceful New Year.
  • Saturday, January 9, 9:30 am to 12:00 pm: Center for Nonviolence Board Meeting. The board will meet at Angela Price's house, 11248 Mountain View Drive, Madera. The change of venue is due to a retreat that will follow the board meeting.
  • Saturday, January 9, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm: Center for Nonviolence Retreat. The retreat will be held at Angela Price's house and is open to anyone interested in being a part of the Center's plans for the coming year. Please call the Center at 237.3223 for direction if you are planning on attending. There will be a potluck lunch from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
  • Wednesday, January 13, 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm: KFCF 88.1. Tune in to the "Stir It Up" monthly radio show to hear Richard Stone in conversation with his guest, the Central Valley's own docu-poet extrordinaire, George "Elfie" Ballis. Call-ins are welcomed at 266.8888.
  • Wednesday, January 13, 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm: Two Special George "Elfie" Ballis Events. Explore the man, the documentarian, the poet and man who takes and records history in pictures and brings life to the hearts of many. The first screening at 12:00 pm will be at the Center, 1584 Van Ness. The 7:00 pm showing will be at the Woodward Park Library, 994 E. Perrin Ave. For directions to the library, please call 433.3135. Both screenings are fee and open to the public. Wheelchair accessible. Please note that the customary potluck will not be held at 6:30 pm as usual, but snacks will be available at the library.
  • Friday, February 26, Three Events Featuring Robert Fisk. Award winning journalist Robert Fisk, who is the Middle East correspondent for The Independent, will be speaking at three different events. 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, the Satellite Students Union on the CSUF campus: Robert Fisk will be the keynote speaker for the Roger Tatarian Journalism Symposium at CSU Fresno, named in honor of Roger Tatarian, the late editor-in-chief of United Press International, and who taught for many years at CSU Fresno. Also speaking will be Nancy Youssef, former Baghdad bureau chief for McClatchy Newspapers, as well as Dr. Gary Rice, professor of journalism at CSUF, who will moderate the session. 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm: Robert Fisk will join Cineculture where he will screen and discuss film clips he shot while in the Middle East. His presentation is titled "Shooting Death." There will be a question and answer session following. 7:00 pm, Reedley Peace Center: Robert Fisk will speak at the Reedley Peace Center at the Fellowship Hall of the First Mennonite Church on L Street between 12th and 13th Streets. There will be a potluck so please bring something to share. All events are free and open to the public.
