Dear Friends of the Center:  Quite a few of you came to see the film “Ghosts of Jeju” at the Center for Nonviolence a few months ago.  We were fortunate to have join us its director, Regis Tremblay, and a Korean activist Joyak Gol.  Most of us had not known what was happening on Jeju Island and Regis’ presentation was so eloquent and informative that we felt a strong link with the islanders and their struggles. Joyak’s part,  both in his presentation and by playing on his guitar, added to this feeling of connection.

Each month I receive a video from Regis and am always glad to hear what is happening at Gangjeong Village.  You will see from this clip that Regis also mentions other problems in the world – Gaza for example and, of course, climate change.  Hope you will check this out.

As you will note from Regis email below, he is still looking for donations to help with his new film about the effects of U.S. militarism in the Pacific.

Here’s the latest edition of The Spirit of Gangjeong. Lot is happening in Korea.

While my trip to Jeju was postponed for now because of my illness in July, I’ll be making a longer trip in June of 2015 to Japan, Okinawa, Jeju, Taiwan, and the Philippines. My friend Pete Woodruff, a very gifted photographer and videographer will travel with me.

If you haven’t contributed yet to the new documentary, please do what you can. The new film will document the effects of US militarism in the Pacific, the large popular uprisings against it, and the environmental destruction that is a consequence of bases, war games, and testing weapons. Thanks to all who have contributed more than $4,000 already.
