Wednesday, September 10 at 12 noon and at 7 p.m. (potluck at 6:30), at the Center for Nonviolence, 1584 N. Van Ness Ave (SE Corner McKinley and Van Ness)  Our 2nd Wednesday video will be The 11th Hour a 2007 documentary film, created, produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, on the state of the natural environment.  With contributions from over 50 politicians, scientists, and environmental activists, including former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, physicist Stephen Hawking, Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai, and journalist Paul Hawken, the film documents the grave problems facing the planet’s life systems.

Global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans’ habitats are all addressed. The film’s premise is that the future of humanity is in jeopardy. The film proposes potential solutions to these problems by calling for restorative action by the reshaping and rethinking of global human activity through technology, social responsibility and conservation. 95 minutes long.

Saturday, September 27  8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the SW corner parking lot of Olive and Van Ness  Return of the Center for Nonviolence Book Sale!   You will be very glad to know that, after a two year lapse, the Center is having its huge fundraising book sale on Saturday, September 27th.  It will be at its usual place in the parking lot on the SW corner Olive and Van Ness.

So…….bring us your books, your DVDs, CDs and we will find them another loving home!  Also, remember they make great Christmas gifts so you can stock up early.  You can bring them to the Center Mon-Fri 11-3.  Call  559-237-3223 if alternative arrangements need to be made to get your books to us. (Please note:  no video cassettes, sorry.  No one buys them anymore.)

Two requests:  (1) if you can help sort the books during the two weeks before the sale, please let me know.  This makes it easier for people to choose books by displaying them in categories.  (2) If you can help on the 27th, again please let me know.
