About the Fresno Center for Nonviolence
|
WE ARE A CENTER:
- We maintain an inviting facility where people work against violence
in all its forms.
- We engage in dialogue amongst ourselves to explore the root causes
of, and best antidotes to, violence in the world (ourselves included).
- We have books, videos, and periodicals -- and also live humans --
to introduce the ideas of nonviolence and provide occasion for discussion
to the curious.
- We provide resources -- meeting space, office machines, financial
support -- to other groups whose work is compatible with ours.
|
WE ARE ADVOCATES:
- We speak and act in the public arena to promote the way of peace
and love, and to oppose the way of violence and hate.
- Our members are visible in the community as writers and radio journalists,
as guest speakers, and as street demonstrators.
|
WE ARE COMMUNITY BUILDERS:
- We bring people from different backgrounds together, to learn from
each other, to argue respectfully, and to find common cause.
- We assist community members in finding their public voice and power.
- We act as an incubator providing both financial and logistical support,
as well as encouragement and legitimacy, to individuals and new groups
just setting out to address issues of injustice and violence.
